I love the blogging community. I get to read about authors, agents, editors (all the blogs I read are book related) and I get to find out about awesome things I normally wouldn't have. Things like Freedom to Read Week. It's a Canadian thing, but I think it should be promoted everywhere. It's a week to support the reading of banned and challenged books. I don't know if you've ever looked at the books that are being challenged in our country or others, but it's ridiculous.
There are great pieces of literature that every kid should get the chance to to grow up with being challenged all the time. My favorite book, Bridge to Terabithia has been banned in Canada. As a kid I loved to read, but I never finished books. I got bored about halfway through and stopped. I was just the kind of kid who had trouble letting somebody else's imagination take over. I wanted to finish the story for myself and had little interest in letting somebody else do it for me. I've been asked how I could possibly want to be an author when I couldn't even finish a book as a kid. The answer is simple. I can now. I have been since high school. I haven't stopped doing it since high school, I read a lot. Plus the original reason I didn't finish them is because I wanted to finish the story myself. I have trouble containing my imagination. I can't think of a better thing for me to do than write. :D
So back to the original point of the post. Check out:

and the Pellham Library Banned Books Challenge http://www.pelhamlibrary.blogspot.com/2007/02/take-banned-book-challenge.html
I have decided to read 26 or more banned/challenged books before the end of June. How many will you do?
